ELIGIBILITY AND SAFETY
Is IV Therapy right for you?
IV therapy is not suitable for everyone. This page provides general guidance on eligibility and safety. It is not a substitute for a clinical consultation — all final suitability decisions are made by your treating nurse.
Who may be eligible
IV therapy sessions may be suitable for adults who:
- Are aged 18 years or over
- Are in generally good health with no contraindicated conditions
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding (without GP clearance)
- Have suitable venous access
- Have no known allergies to proposed formulation components
- Have disclosed their full medical history and current medications
Meeting these general criteria does not guarantee suitability. All eligibility is confirmed by clinical assessment at the time of your consultation.
Who is not suitable
IV therapy is generally not appropriate for individuals who have:
- Congestive heart failure or significant cardiac conditions
- Chronic kidney disease or significant renal impairment
- Significant liver disease
- Active infection or acute illness
- Known allergy to any component of the proposed formulation
- Poor or inaccessible venous access
- Certain blood disorders or clotting conditions
- Uncontrolled hypertension
This list is not exhaustive. Your treating nurse will conduct a thorough assessment and make the final determination on your individual suitability.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we require written clearance from your treating GP or obstetrician before proceeding with any IV therapy session. We will not treat pregnant or breastfeeding clients without this documentation.
Medication and supplements
You must disclose all current medications, supplements, and herbal products at your consultation. Some medications and supplements may interact with IV therapy components. Your treating nurse will review your medications as part of the clinical assessment process.
Known risks
As with any invasive clinical procedure, IV therapy carries some risks. These include but are not limited to:
- Bruising, soreness, or swelling at the insertion site
- Phlebitis (inflammation of the vein)
- Infiltration (fluid entering surrounding tissue)
- Allergic reaction to formulation components
- Infection (rare, minimised by strict sterile technique)
- Air embolism (extremely rare)
Your treating nurse will discuss these risks with you prior to your session and obtain your informed consent before proceeding.
Always consult your GP
We strongly recommend consulting your GP before undertaking IV therapy, particularly if you have any existing health conditions or take regular medications. Your GP has full knowledge of your medical history and is best placed to advise whether IV therapy is appropriate for you.
In an emergency
If you experience a medical emergency during or after your session, call 000 immediately. Your nurse is trained to respond to clinical emergencies and will act promptly if any concern arises during your session.
